Cleaning carpets, upholstery and rugs

Keeping carpets and upholstery clean is an extremely important task for cleaning chemicals. The choice of cleaning method depends on many important factors, including the degree of dirt, the structure of the carpet, the type of fiber in the pile, the equipment you have, and the expected drying time.

In order to achieve excellent results in cleaning carpets and upholstery, we must follow a few basic rules. This will allow us to achieve a perfect result and additionally protect us from making a mistake. Cleaning can be divided into several stages:

Material identification

A very important element of the cleaning process is fabric identification and fiber recognition. Why? For example, semi-synthetic fibers made on the basis of cellulose are permanently deformed under the influence of water. Some fibers – e.g. hemp, jute, wool, bristles, bristles, are sensitive to strong alkaline agents, and their use may destabilize the colors or damage the material. Coconut fibers and sisal are sensitive to water – stains may remain after drying. Polyacrylate (PAC), polyamide (PA) are sensitive to strong acids. Finer fibers require careful handling when cleaning.

Vacuuming

Regular removal of insoluble dirt (e.g. quartz) improves the aesthetics of the surface and significantly extends the life of the carpet. I guess everyone realizes how many problems permanent dirt on a carpet or rug can cause. You can ignore the fact that if noticed, they look unsightly, especially in the eyes of third parties. They have a much worse effect on the fabric itself. Well, solid contaminants themselves may not cause much damage to the material until the carpet is used. The contaminants are then literally pressed, dented and rubbed, which makes them blend into the structure of the material, leading to its degradation. The only way to save a carpet or rug is regular vacuuming and cleaning.

Stain removal

Stain removal – i.e. removal of water-soluble or insoluble dirt. Before starting the process, we always perform a test on a small area, in an inconspicuous place, to eliminate the risk of damaging a larger surface. To remove water-insoluble stains, we use preparations based on organic solvents. Any stain that occurs should be removed as quickly as possible. Start by drying the stain with a paper towel or a dry clean cloth, then apply the preparation to the stain. Collect the dissolved dirt using an absorbent cloth or paper towel. If a large part of the carpet surface is stained, using a vacuum cleaner with a washing function may be helpful. This method works especially well when the carpet is stained with water-soluble substances. Substances insoluble in it require an individual approach to their removal.

Cleaning

Cleaning can be divided into two types: maintenance cleaning (very often neglected) and thorough cleaning . We must always remember to perform the test on a small piece of material, in an inconspicuous place.

Maintenance cleaning aims to remove dirt before it is visible to the naked eye. Thanks to this, we extend the service life of carpets by 20-40%.

Thorough cleaning – during which the carpet becomes more wet and the maximum amount of dirt is removed. There are two methods: shampooing and extraction .

Shampooing

This method consists of two main stages: dissolving and removing dirt. Dirt is dissolved by applying a cleaning preparation intended for shampooing and then spreading the preparation manually or using a single-disc machine equipped with a soft brush on the cleaned surface. The product foams and the dirt is dissolved. After successfully dissolving the dirt, we suck out excess moisture with a wet vacuum cleaner. Let the carpet dry completely, then remove the crystallized residue dry (skipping this step may result in dirt and chemical deposits building up on the carpet).

A very important element of the cleaning process is the selection of appropriate cleaning chemicals – this is the only way to achieve a satisfactory effect. The products used should be used professionally, which will ensure not only a satisfactory effect, but also the safety of the cleaned surfaces. A very good solution is to use CLINEX products. We can recommend the CLINEX TEXTILE SHP product , which will provide an excellent cleaning effect, and the carefully developed formula, containing innovative polymers, will extend the life of the surface.

Extraction – spray cleaning

That is, spray cleaning . We start the process by spraying the preparation (so-called prespray) on no more than 40 m of the carpet at a time. The preparation dissolves dirt. To enhance the effect, we can use a device with counter-rotating cylindrical brushes. Using a hand nozzle, we collect the solution from the surface. We can repeat this operation until we obtain a satisfactory effect. As already mentioned, the selection of professional cleaning chemicals is crucial to obtaining a satisfactory effect. We propose the product CLINEX TEXTIL EXT, it is a professional preparation containing the highest quality raw materials. The product is safe for the cleaned surface. Thanks to the content of wetting substances, it can even remove chemical deposits and dirt remaining on the carpet after previous cleaning treatments.

Maintaining the cleanliness of carpets and upholstery involves, first of all, systematically performing several basic activities. Missing any of them may have serious consequences.

The impact of care on the condition of carpets and rugs

Depending on what we are dealing with, whether it is a carpet made of artificial or natural materials or another type of carpet, care is advisable and often necessary. By caring for your carpet, you can significantly extend its lifespan. For this purpose, it is not enough to just vacuum it regularly, collect dirt or wash it.

Carpets made of natural materials require careful care. Professional Clinex products matched to the type of material are perfect for this purpose. These products penetrate deep into the carpet, cleaning and preserving it. They make the material retain its properties. It does not harden and the fibers do not tend to fall out or change color. The ingredients contained in care products make vacuuming easier and provide the carpet with natural softness.

Carpets made of artificial materials are no less demanding. These also require regular care. It is worth adding that artificial materials seem to be more durable than natural ones, but this is not entirely true. Natural fibers have natural resistance and resist “mistreatment” for longer. However, this often leads to irreversible changes, damage to the material and its eventual destruction. Unmaintained artificial materials quickly lose their attractive appearance. Sometimes it can be significantly improved.
As you can see, care is equally important for both natural and artificial materials.
